Questions from the boundary
86 answers, the same as Help / FAQs in the County Cricket app. Scoring stays on the phone — this site is for watching.
Account
How do I sign in?
Enter your 10-digit mobile number in the app. We send an OTP — a one-time code by SMS. There is no password. The website is watch-only and has no login.
I did not get the OTP. What now?
Wait a minute, check your SMS (and any spam folder), then resend. Use the same number you registered. You can ask for a new code three times before resending pauses for 10 minutes. If it still fails, Contact us with that number.
Why does sign-in say to wait?
Five wrong codes pause sign-in for 15 minutes, and three resends pause new codes for 10 minutes. It protects your account. Wait for the timer, then ask for a fresh code.
Which phones does the app run on?
Android, from Google Play. The iPhone App Store release is not out yet. On an iPhone you can still watch every match in the browser at countycricket.app.
Is County Cricket free?
Yes. There is no subscription, no in-app purchase, and no advertising. If that ever changes we will publish paid-service terms first.
Can I change my phone number?
Not from the app today. Contact us from the registered number and we will do it by hand. Do not create a second account for the same person.
How do I sign out or switch to a different number?
You → Sign out, then sign in with the other number. Each number is its own account with its own matches, follows, and badges. Do not make a second account for the same person.
What do I have to fill in when I first sign in?
Your name (3–30 letters), date of birth, city (3–20 letters), and your batting and bowling style. A photo, a playing role, and an email are optional.
How do I edit my profile?
You → pencil. Name, city, photo, playing role, batting and bowling style, optional email. The QR next to the pencil opens your public page.
How do I verify email?
Add an email on Edit profile. We send a code. Verified shows on You. Email is optional.
Does County Cricket upload my contacts?
Only if you allow Contacts. We send up to 200 numbers (no names) to see who is already on the app.
Which permissions does the app ask for, and are they required?
None except your phone number to sign in. Contacts (find teammates), Location (suggest your city — no raw GPS is stored), Notifications (match alerts), and Camera, Microphone, and Photos (profile photo, stories, match photos, Go Live) are all optional. If you said no, turn one on later in your phone’s Settings → Apps → County Cricket → Permissions.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Delete account. Confirm twice. Login and profile go. Match names may stay; phones on those rows are cleared. This cannot be undone.
Scoring
How do I start a match?
Tap Start in the middle of the bottom bar → style and players → Start now or Schedule. Start now opens Let’s Play, then Start scoring. Target: 1 vs 1, 1 vs 2, 2 vs 2. Double header: 2 vs 2 or 1 vs 2. Head to Head is 1 vs 1.
What is the difference between Start now and Schedule?
Start now goes to Let’s Play and scoring. If you leave Let’s Play before Start scoring, the app asks whether to discard the match or keep it scheduled; if you close the app there, it is discarded. Schedule saves the fixture under My Matches → Upcoming until you open it and start. A match that still hasn’t started 12 hours after its time moves to Results as Not played; you can still open it to start or delete it.
What happens if the organiser deletes a match?
Only a match that has not started can be deleted, from Let’s Play → Delete match. It disappears for everyone, including the assigned scorer and streamer. Opening it from an old notification shows Match deleted.
How do I add a player who is not on County Cricket?
Enter their 10-digit mobile number and a name. If the number is registered, the app fills in their name and shows On County Cricket. Otherwise they play as a guest under the name you typed.
Why can’t I press Start now with a player?
A player who is already in another live or upcoming match can be added to a scheduled fixture, but you cannot Start now with them until that other match is over.
What do I set on Let’s Play?
Overs, extra balls (0–5), extra runs (Head to head and Double header: a head start of 0–50 runs for one side), wickets (1–10), fielders (optional, 1–11), the toss, and the target on a chase, then the opening batter and bowler. Defaults are five overs, five wickets, and five fielders. Then Start scoring.
Can I score a match with more than two players a side?
Not when you create one. Target allows 1 vs 1, 1 vs 2, or 2 vs 2; Head to Head is 1 vs 1; Double header is 2 vs 2 or 1 vs 2.
Does scoring work offline?
Yes. Balls save on this phone first and sync when you are online, in order. A banner shows Offline · N queued while they wait. Go Live needs a network.
What ball and pitch types are supported?
Hard or soft tennis. Turf, cement, or soil. Set both when you create the match.
How do wides and no-balls work?
Tap Wd or Nb. On a wide, use + for each run (1 is a plain wide). On a no-ball the +1 penalty is added for you and you add any runs beyond it, and can mark a run out. After a no-ball, only run out can stand on the free hit.
Which dismissals can I record?
Bowled, caught, run out, stumped, and hit wicket. Run out asks how many runs were completed first.
How does undo work?
Undo removes the last ball, or closes an open wagon wheel. Crossing an innings may ask you to confirm. The undo history is saved on the phone.
What is the wagon wheel?
After 1, 2, 3, 4, or 6, pick one of eight zones — or Skip. You can add a shot name. Dots, extras, and wickets skip it. Nothing draws the chart yet; the zone is saved with the ball.
How does a match end, and who wins?
An innings ends when the wickets are gone, the overs are bowled, or the target is reached. Target: the batting side wins by wickets if it reaches the target, otherwise the other side wins by runs. Head to Head and Double header: the higher total wins; level totals are “Match drawn” (Head to Head) or “Match tied” (Double header).
How do I fix a score after the match?
Completed matches only. The organiser or assigned scorer opens the match → Summary or Scorecard tab → Edit score. Tap Undo to remove the wrong ball, enter the correct one, then Preview & publish. Nothing changes for others until you publish. Abandoned and walkover cannot be edited. The website cannot take a correction.
How many times can a completed match be edited?
Up to five published edits per match, shared by the organiser and the assigned scorer. Only Publish counts: undoing, re-entering balls, and discarding a draft are free. The match shows how many edits are left. If they run out, the organiser can unlock more on the Summary tab.
I left Edit score without publishing. Is my change saved?
No. Edits stay a draft on your phone until you tap Preview & publish. Leaving asks you to discard, and the published score stays exactly as it was. A draft is lost if the app closes.
How do I abandon a match, give a walkover, or end it early?
Match settings on the live match: Abandoned (scoring stops, no winner), Walkover (you pick the winner), or End match (saves the result). Abandoned and walkover results cannot use Edit score later.
Where is Match settings?
The gear on the match screen. It has Delayed and Resume, Abandoned, Walkover, End match, and Transfer scorer and Transfer streaming.
How many photos can a match have?
Five. Each up to 8 MB, JPEG, PNG, or WebP. Only the organiser and the current scorer can add or remove them, from the Gallery tab. Gallery photos are public.
What happens if my phone dies mid-match?
Balls that already synced are safe on the server. Balls that were only on the phone sync when it is charged and online. Open the app on that phone once; do not clear the app’s data or uninstall before it has synced.
Live & handoff
How do I transfer scoring or streaming?
While live or delayed: that match → Match settings → Transfer scorer or Transfer streaming. Enter their registered phone. They accept in the app, and the old phone becomes view-only for scoring.
Who can score a match?
The organiser (who created it) and the assigned scorer. A match has one scoring seat, so only one phone changes the score at a time.
How do I Go Live on YouTube?
On a live match in the installed app, the organiser or streamer taps Live at the top of the match and picks Mobile Phone (Professional Camera is coming soon). An assigned streamer opens the match from their notification and can go live once the scorer starts it. Your YouTube channel needs Live turned on (the first time it can take up to 24 hours). Sign in with the Google account that owns the channel, allow the camera and microphone, and the phone turns landscape and opens a preview. Nothing goes out until you tap Go live now.
What can the streamer control during the stream?
Zoom in and out with + and − or the zoom slider, mute the mic, and pause: Pause covers the camera with a “Short break” card and mutes the mic while the YouTube video keeps running, and Resume brings the camera back. Before the first ball the match card (Double Header, Man to Man or Target) stays on until you tap Start match, and between innings the runs-needed card stays on until you tap Resume. The Cards row puts the scorecard (batting and bowling together), the runs-to-win card or the short-break card on air. The stream keeps going after the match until you tap End Live.
Is the score shown on the YouTube video?
Yes. The score bar is burned into the video from the streaming phone, so it also shows on youtube.com and in the archive.
Who can see my YouTube stream?
Anyone: Go Live creates a public broadcast on your channel while the match is on. The video and its recording live on your channel, and you manage them in YouTube Studio. County Cricket does not host the video.
How much delay is there, and how much data does it use?
Roughly two to five seconds. The stream is 1080p at 30 frames a second, up to about 8 Mbps — roughly 3.6 GB an hour — and lowers itself on a weak connection or when the phone gets hot. Use Wi‑Fi or a strong signal.
Can I move streaming to another phone without ending the video?
Yes. On the second phone tap Go Live and choose Request handover. The first phone taps Accept and keeps streaming until the new phone is on air, so the same YouTube video carries on. If nobody answers in 90 seconds the request is cancelled.
Why does the in-app player say playback is disabled?
The YouTube channel does not have “Embed live streams” (an Advanced feature in YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility). Turn it on for the next Go Live, or watch on YouTube in the meantime.
Why can’t I Go Live in Expo Go?
YouTube publishing needs the installed Play Store / APK build. Use that, not Expo Go.
Should I score and stream on one phone?
Two phones is easier: one scores, one streams. They can be two people, or the organiser signed in on both phones: score on one, then open the match on the other and tap Live. Leave Match Crew blank to do both, or assign a streamer at create.
Go Live says something went wrong. What do I do?
Read the message on the Go Live screen. “Live streaming is not enabled” means turn it on in YouTube Studio and wait up to 24 hours. “Another phone is streaming” means request a handover or End Live there. A timeout means the network was slow — tap Try again.
Following & chat
How do I follow someone?
Open their profile and tap Follow. Match alerts: Notifications settings → Matches. Following is one-way; nobody has to accept.
How does Search work?
Type at least three characters. Results: Players (including people who haven't signed up but were added to a match), Grounds, Locations. Phone numbers are never shown. Paste a profile link to open that player.
Why does a player show “Not on County Cric”?
They were added to a match by someone else but have not signed up. Search finds them by name, and opening one lists the matches they were added to. When they sign up with that number, their matches move to their account. Their number is never shown, and you cannot search by it.
How does chat work?
1:1, only when you both follow each other. Messages open from the chat icon on Home. Text up to 2,000 characters and photos; links are not allowed.
Can I unsend or delete a chat message?
You can unsend a message you sent, and hide a message on your own screen. Chat photos are removed after 30 days.
Can I report or block someone?
Not in 1.0. Unfollowing ends the conversation. If someone is bothering you, Contact us with their number.
How do stories work?
Add a photo from Home. It stays for 24 hours. Followers can open it in the app only — never on the website.
Where is my profile QR?
You → QR icon. It opens your public player page on countycricket.app. The QR and its link contain a random id — never your phone number.
Watching
Do I need the app or an account to watch?
No. Open the shared link or countycricket.app in any browser. Scoring, chat, stories, and Go Live are only in the app.
What do Live, Future, and Past mean on the website?
Live: matches in progress, including delayed ones. Future: scheduled matches. Past: finished, abandoned, walkover, or cancelled matches. Each list shows ten at a time; use More for the next ten.
What are the tabs on a match page?
Info, Live (or Summary once it is over), Scorecard, Insights, Commentary, and Gallery. The address bar changes with the tab, so you can share the exact page.
Can I watch the video on the website?
Yes, while the organiser is streaming on YouTube. A Watch live video panel appears under the score; nothing from YouTube loads until you tap it. There is also an Open on YouTube link.
Why does a live score look stuck on the web?
The board updates when the scorer’s phone syncs. Come online once and it catches up. The website says the scorer looks offline after about 45 seconds without an update.
The website still shows an old score after I refresh. What now?
First reload the page (pull down on a phone, or a hard refresh on a computer) and check your connection. Try another browser or a private window to rule out a stuck cache. If it still looks old, the scorer’s phone has not synced — the board catches up on its own when they are back online. Never send a new score by email; only the scorer or organiser can change it, in the app.
What does Delayed mean?
The match is still live in the feed, but play is paused. It stays in Live until scoring resumes or the match ends.
Why is a scheduled match still in Future after start time?
It stays there until someone starts scoring or the organiser deletes it. Draft matches never show on the website.
Why can’t I find a match on the website?
Drafts are never listed, and a match appears once it has synced. Search by the ground or the city, or look up a player. If it is still missing, Contact us with the side names, the ground, and the date.
What do CRR, Req RR, and Projected mean?
CRR is the current run rate. Req RR is the run rate needed to win a chase. Projected is the score the innings would reach at the current rate. Ahead or Behind compares a chase with an even pace. They are estimates and never change the result.
Links & sharing
What do County Cricket links look like?
A match is countycricket.app/match/… followed by the screen (live, scorecard, insights, and so on). A profile is countycricket.app/player/…, and the app is countycricket.app/app.
A link opened in my browser, not the app. Why?
Update the app, then on Android open Settings → Apps → County Cricket → Open by default and allow supported links. You can also tap Open in the County Cricket app at the top of the page. iPhones open the website until the App Store release.
I opened a link and the app asked me to sign in. Will I lose the match?
No. After you sign in, the app takes you to the match you opened.
How do I make a link open the website instead of the app?
Add ?web=1 to the end of the link.
Notifications
Why don’t I get lock-screen notifications?
Notifications settings → turn on Matches, General, and Chat (each switch saves as you flip it), and make sure Send push messages to this phone is on. Also check the phone’s own notification permission for County Cricket and battery-saver limits. On the installed app, alerts arrive even when it is closed.
What is each notification switch for?
Matches: start and result for games you play or follow, followed players and grounds, and score updates. General: new followers, scorer or streamer transfers, and Match Crew invites. Chat: 1:1 messages.
Why is a chat missing from Notifications?
New messages open from the chat icon on Home. You still get a lock-screen alert if Chat is on.
The app
How do I see my stats?
You → Performance. Filter by All, Target, Head to Head, or Double header. Matches I Scored is what you scored; Matches I Streamed is what you streamed or are assigned to stream. Connection Matches are from people you follow. Match lists open on the last month — tap Filter to pick All time, another period or your own dates, and to filter by match style or ball type.
How do badges and the Leaderboard work?
Badges unlock automatically when a match completes — see them under You → Badges. The Leaderboard (You → Leaderboard) ranks batting (most runs) and bowling (most wickets) separately for Target, Head to Head, and Double header, with your own row pinned. Tap Filter at the top right to see All time, the last week, month, 3 or 6 months, year, or your own dates. Only verified matches count toward it; Performance counts every match. Badges are never taken away.
Why haven’t I got a badge I expected?
Badges are worked out when a match completes and can take a few seconds. Your player slot has to be linked to your account (your phone number in the roster), and some badges need several matches. Seven fielding badges are switched off for now.
Why am I not on the Leaderboard?
It ranks registered players from verified matches only, up to 100 per list. A match is verified when every player on both sides has signed up with their phone number, at least 12 legal balls were bowled (wides and no-balls do not count), and only your first 5 matches of the day count. Ask teammates to sign up so your matches count. Your Performance page still includes every match, and your own row is pinned on the board.
How do I send feedback or report a bug?
Settings → Feedback. Write at least a short note (up to 2,000 characters, no links). It reaches the team with your name, account id, and registered phone so we can reply. Include the match name and your app version.
Do you have tournaments, teams, or a store?
Not yet. No shop and no paid plan.
Can I score from the website?
No. The site is watch-only. Create, score, handoff, and Go Live stay in the app.
Privacy & safety
Who can see my phone number?
Nobody. Phone numbers are not shown on scorecards, profiles, search results, or the website. The person who adds you to a match types your number to find you, and the app then shows only its last four digits on their roster. Your own number is visible only to you, on your own profile.
Can anyone see my date of birth?
No. It is asked once when you set up your profile and is visible only to you, on your own Edit profile. It is never shown to other people.
What is public about me?
Scores, your display name, photo, venues, match photos, and your public player page with career numbers and badges. Never shown to anyone else: your phone number and date of birth. Only in the app: chat, follow lists, and stories.
Do you sell my data or show ads?
No. There is no advertising and we do not sell personal information. The website has no login and sets no advertising cookies.
How long is my data kept?
Account data stays until you delete the account. Stories last 24 hours and chat photos 30 days.
