How Insights work: run rate, need rate, and projected score

CRR, “need X off Y balls”, required run rate, ahead or behind, projected score, and milestones — what each line means and where it comes from.

Insights are generated from the match itself. There is no editor: every line is worked out by the same scoring engine that runs on the scorer’s phone, so the app and the website always agree.

The header lines

  • CRR — the current run rate: runs scored per over so far in this innings.
  • Need X off Y balls — on a chase, the runs still needed and the balls left.
  • Req RR — the required run rate: runs needed divided by the overs remaining.
  • Target — the number to reach.
  • Ahead by N / Behind by N — how the chase compares with an even pace. It takes the target, spreads it evenly across the innings, and compares that with the runs scored so far.
  • Projected N — when there is no target, the score the innings would reach if the current run rate carried on to the end of the overs.

Over progress and milestones

  • This over shows the balls so far and the runs in them, for example This over: 1 4 Wd 0 · 6 so far.
  • Milestones appear as they happen: Fifty for a batter on 50 or more, Hundred on 100, Target reached, and All wickets gone.

The Insights tab

The Insights tab is an over-by-over trail. Each over is a card with the balls in order, the runs in the over, the running score and wickets, and who batted and bowled. It fills in as balls are scored.
