Permissions explained: what the app asks for and why

Contacts, location, notifications, camera, microphone, and photos — what each is used for, and what happens if you say no.

The only thing County Cricket needs to work is your mobile number. Every permission below is optional. The app asks for each one at the moment you first use the feature, and you can change your mind at any time.

The list

  • Contacts — to show you which of your contacts are already on County Cricket. The numbers are read on your phone; up to 200 normalised numbers are sent to the server to check who has an account. Names are never uploaded. Without it you can still search and follow people by number.
  • Location — to suggest your city. Only the city you choose and the ground names you type are stored, not raw GPS. Without it you type your city.
  • Notifications — for match, general, and chat alerts. Without it the app works, and you find things by opening it.
  • Camera — for a profile photo, a story, a chat photo, a match photo, and Go Live.
  • Microphone — only for Go Live, so the stream has sound.
  • Photos — to pick an existing picture for your profile, a story, chat, or a match Gallery.

How to change one later

On Android, open Settings → Apps → County Cricket → Permissions and switch it on or off. Notifications also have their own switches inside the app under Settings → Notifications.

What happens to your contacts

Contacts are kept on your phone for the Follow tab and are not shared with anyone. If you revoke the permission, the on-device copy stops updating. Deleting your account removes the copies the app keeps.
